First, I would like to wish everyone a WONDERFUL Spring Break! I hope you and your families enjoy the week off! Also, THANK YOU VERY MUCH to those of you who purchased a book for our classroom library during the Book Fair. We GREATLY appreciate your generous donation and the various genres and levels have really added to our library! On another note, a BIG thank you to all the blog visitors; I have reached my lifelong goal of 10,000 hits to my blog. WOW, very exciting!
Everything was pretty normal today, other than the pouring rain, which I feel like we have not seen in so long! We had a regular schedule which began with reading. Most students finished up their book club book (a mystery or adventure novel) and we will begin Historical Fiction after break. We did not have time for projects for this particular genre but many students asked about making a project over break-which is of course an excellent idea! After math we worked on daily grammar and many students took their spelling test.
In third grade math we continued with the inquiry project we began yesterday. The kids were so wonderful to watch as they analyzed sources such as pictures, videos, websites, to determine if they would be of value for their wiki page. Over break there is no new homework. I discussed the fact that anyone using fractions over break (such as "I am about to eat 1/3 of this pizza) is welcome to take a picture or video and post it to their wiki page. We will continue this challenge after break but many students may have more time on their hands to be creative once the break begins. If you have a busy vacation planned, do not worry about this! Also, IXL is extra credit over the break for anyone interested!
After art and lunch, we had DEAR time and then went to the Media Center. Afterwards we spent time on finishing the digital stories and reading Time For Kids. There was also some time for students to make sure that their lockers were free and clear of anything that might grow or morph over Spring Break. We don't want anything surprising in our lockers come Monday, April 9th! Lastly, after planners and clean-up, we took our Spelling test. Due to the rain, there was no time for Sharks and Minnows (even though they both thrive in the water), so we re-arranged the tables and chairs instead. The kids were the BEST helpers. Our room actually seems larger and there is more room to maneuver through... (I am definitely to the point where I need more room and it will only get worse as the year goes on!)
Again, I hope you enjoy your break and I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday, April 9th!
