Holiday Fun Friday!

Today was a fantastic day!  This morning was filled with Sign of the Beaver!  We finished the book and then watched the movie!  It was great to compare the two, which were both amazing!

After Engineering Technology and lunch, we finished the movie and then did some housekeeping... We had a locker clean-out.  Then the kids made AMAZING thank you cards for Steve and Scott who Skyped with us on Monday.  Then, lastly, we had our holiday party!  Thank you to all the parents who put together a great party! The kids' gingerbread houses turned out excellent!

I hope everyone has a safe, enjoyable and relaxing break!  See you in 2012!

Technology Thursday!

Today was all about Sign of the Beaver.  We almost finished the book and we are planning to watch the movie tomorrow!  How exciting!  So, for the morning, before and after math, we read along with the audiobook.

During math the third graders took the Unit 4 test.  We had a 100% rate of "double checking work."  They really got the message about how truly important it is to check their work.  There is one JP, 101, for homework, due tomorrow.

After swimming, lunch and Spanish, we worked on our tagxedo creations (and some kids even made glogs) based on Sign of the Beaver.  Here is the wiki page where each pair of students created their page.  Please check them out, they are AMAZING!

AWESOME SIGN OF THE BEAVER TAGXEDO PAGES!

Thank you to everyone who turned in their paragraphs ON TIME!!  I cannot wait to read them!  Just seeing some of the creative Thanksgiving guests makes me very excited to read all the paragraphs!

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful Thursday evening!

Tuesday was great!

Today was a fantastic day!  We began with Sign of the Beaver!  After math we had Writer's Workshop.  I heard many great stories!  The kids are doing a great job with this small moment writing piece.

In third grade math, we spent time working on measuring, math boxes, fact tests and even some IXL.  The homework tonight is to finish JPs 99 & 100 if not done in class, and HL 4.10.  The review is due tomorrow and the Unit 4 test is on Friday.

After PE, lunch and Spanish, we had co-teaching with Mrs. Truesdell.  Afterwards we read from Cosmic.

As a reminder, after break kids will need a set of headphones to keep at school.  We will also need clear, cleaned out, two liter bottles for our exciting ecosystems unit after break.  We will also need parents to help with cutting the bottles so I can assemble the aquariums and terrariums.  We make 10 sets.  Please email me if you would be willing to volunteer.

The new spelling lists went out today.  The next test is 1/6/12.  As a reminder, students MUST LOG IN to Spelling City.  I will be grading based on the activity reports generated from the website.

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful evening!

Skype Monday!

Today was an incredible.  This morning it was business as usual, Sign of the Beaver, math and Writer's Workshop.  Then, after Engage students went to lunch.

This afternoon we had DEAR, discussed Spelling, went over the final page of our Michigan Geography packet and then read some of Cosmic.  We also made a video tutorial of how to upload files to the wiki (specifically for paragraph practice) which I will post ASAP. The most amazing part of the day was next...

At 2:30 we were able to Skype with Scott Rigsby and Steve Ehretsman of ProCare Prosthetics.  Both Scott and Steve spoke at length about their prosthetic legs.  I did video tape the entire Skype session and will publish that later.  Please take some time this evening to discuss this amazing opportunity with your child.

Ford Rouge Friday!

Today's field trip was AMAZING!  Your children learned so much information about the history of Henry Ford and the Rouge Plant.  THANK YOU CHAPERONES for joining us, our trip would not have been as successful as it was without you!  I took some pictures and put them into the comic below:

When we returned, we had math.  In third grade math we checked the 4.5 and 4.6 math boxes and then completed two explorations in lesson 4.8 on JPs 92 & 93.  The HW is: JPs 91 & 94 and HLs 4.7 & 4.8.  There are NO FRIDAY FACT TESTS this week.  They will resume on Tuesday.

After math we had spelling.  The kids took their test and the new lists will be distributed next week.  We discussed getting headphones to keep at school after the break.  So, over the course of the next two weeks, if you could locate a pair for your child to keep here at school that would be great!  If the headphones had a microphone that would be even better!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Today was a SUPER day!  We began our day with DEAR time and then had math.  In third grade math we continued to work with multiplication and division, specifically fact triangles.  We worked on JP 90 and HL 4.6 and then finished the morning with Around the World with multiplication facts.  The kids really love playing!

After math we had a short Writer's Workshop.  I heard many kids say that they are excited to hear everyone's stories!  I too am excited since everyone started their stories with great, exciting sentences!

After lunch the kids had swimming and Spanish.  After Spanish we spent time talking about tomorrow's field trip.  We discussed the importance of the Ford Rouge Plant and we also learned about Henry Ford himself.

Please remember that tomorrow's field trip will require kids to bring a PEANUT FREE bag lunch. We will have to eat on the bus on the way back to school.  If you would like to see more about the Ford Rouge Factory please click HERE.

In third grade math we looked further into patterns of division.  Today's journal pages were 88 and 89.
