Halloween Monday!

Today was a spooktacular day!  This morning we wrote about Halloween costumes, did some Halloween activities and also worked on the science wikis.  The morning Co-Curricular was Engage.

After Engage and lunch, we heard a story from Mrs. Clark and then watched It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!  By 1:30 we were ready for the Halloween festivities to begin!  It was a wonderful parade and an amazing party.  THANK YOU SO MUCH to all the parents that helped and attended today.  I made a photo album of the party which you can view by clicking the slideshow on the sidebar.

FABULOUS Friday!

Today was a FABULOUS day!  This morning we read Time for Kids and also continued working on nouns.  We have learned SO MUCH about nouns - what they are, how to abbreviate them, the rules for pluralizing nouns, and we're not even finished yet!

During math, we had a guest, a student teacher, teach a fun lesson about adding and subtracting!  The kids had a great time adding and subtracting and reviewing fact families.

The morning Co-Curricular was Engineering Technology.  During lunch our room was transformed into a spooky Halloween haven which really made it exciting for the kids to come back after lunch.  Thank you SO MUCH to all the parents and students who helped by bringing in decorations and sharing their time!  I hope you all get to stop in on Monday to see it!

This afternoon we performed our King Midas play, the kids did an incredible job!  They blocked and prepared their lines themselves.  It was wonderful.  We had four people videotaping so we'll have a motion picture available for your entertainment very soon!  We had a wonderful student read some of The BFG, thanks Ian!  Finally we had a great science lesson in the lab.  We talked about sloped land and how it impacts erosion, water flow, and sediment.  Then, we planted seeds in our stream tables.  The kids were so fabulous in the lab that they earned an extra recess.

ABOUT MONDAY: PLEASE NO COSTUMES, FACE PAINT, WACKY PAINTED HAIR-DOs, ETC. UNTIL 1:20 PM WHEN WE CHANGE FOR THE PARADE AND PARTY.  All Halloween items should be safely stored in a bag, which will stay inside lockers, until 1:20 pm.  You are welcome to come help your child if the costume is elaborate or requires face paint/special hairstyling.

Thank you so much for reading and have a wonderful weekend!!

It was a WONDERFUL Wednesday!

Today was a WONDERFUL day!  This morning we read a great short story about friendship.  Then, we assigned roles for our play that we'll be performing on Friday at 1:30.  ANY PARENT WANTING TO COME IN IS MORE THAN WELCOME!  After reading we had math.  Then, during writing time we discussed nouns.  The kids are pros on nouns - what they are, examples of nouns both common and proper!

In third grade math we reviewed for tomorrow's test and also took more fact tests.

Today's Co-Curriculars were Engage and Engineering Technology.  The remainder of the afternoon was spent working on science.  The kids used their stream tables and created hills and placed rocks inside to predict how a stream would flow.  Then, they tested their predictions and recorded their observations.  It was a great investigation!

A Magnificent Monday!

Today was a MAGNIFICENT Monday!  We started off our morning with reading.  We read a wonderful story about a boy named Ethan Zucker.  Please ask your child to share this amazing story with you.  We actually watched a video of Ethan and his mom as well!

In math this morning, we finished discussing lesson 2.9.  I distributed the review which is due Wednesday. We will have our unit 2 test on Thursday.  Please be sure to sign your child's review by Wednesday.

After math, we worked on writing a paragraph based on Ethan's powers.  Students and their buddies worked together.  There is a paragraph contest that I suggested each child enter, but it is not mandatory.  Please have your child consider entering their paragraph!

Today's morning co-curricular was Engage.  Then, after lunch we finished paragraphs and had a great classroom meeting.  We talked about Scott Rigsby, (his name is linked to his website) another powerful person.  We also talked about the final finisher who crossed the Ironman finish line at 17 hours 4 seconds.  Four seconds too late...  and I got sad like I always do when I think of her.  Lastly, we had science.  We continued investigating rivers and then discussed volcanoes and yes, Hawaii came up again!  Remember, we'll need rocks for science on Wednesday.

Tomorrow will be our last day of reading testing so I will be out of the classroom.  Although I missing seeing the entire class, it is very nice to spend individual time with each child.  Please feel free to email me with any concerns.

Thank you for reading and have a fabulous evening!

Today was a TERRIFIC Thursday!

First I want to share an interesting article about the earthquakes on the Big Island in Hawaii yesterday!  Although experiencing those would have been a great conversation piece for our new natural disasters research project, I am glad I can just read about them.  Just click HERE to read.

Another important piece of information, is that today and tomorrow I will be testing my students using a district reading assessment. I am excited to have this time to meet individually with your child and learn more about their literacy development. I will be in the building, but out of the classroom during this time. I will have the same guest teacher while I am out. Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

A Fabulous Wednesday!

Please note the following time change: The 3/4 Coffee with the Principal on October 24th will now start at 9:30 am.

We did it!  We are finished with MEAPs for the year!  The kids did such a great job this week!  Tomorrow and Friday will be back to the normal routine.  Yay!  Most of today was devoted to the 4th grade writing MEAP.  However, we did find time to have math for an hour this morning, and then again for thirty minutes this afternoon!

During third grade math this morning, we continued discussing subtraction.  Some students came to the board to and used our interactive pen to show us the Counting Up method.  Then, we practiced Trades First, our second subtraction algorithm.  Tonight's homework practices Trades First.  The HW tonight is JP 49, JP 50 and HL 2.8, all due tomorrow.

This afternoon, we separated into math classes again.  We spent our time playing Name That Number on the iPad.  Kids who were not up at the iPad were at their seats using post-it notes to play.  It was a great game and some of the kids developed amazing number sentences!

Tuesday Homework

Wow!  It was a long day of MEAP tests, but everyone did their best and came through with flying colors!  I need a little "down time" this afternoon, and I am sure a lot of the students do, as well.

Because of the MEAPs, we did not hold regular classes other than our two co-curriculars (PE and Spanish).  Please check your Spanish teacher's blog (http://bcsonline.info/Academics/Spanish.html) to see if there is any homework.

As there were no regular classes, there is no additional homework for tonight other than sleeping well and eating a healthy breakfast.  Third graders had a math journal page and a home link assigned yesterday.  It is due tomorrow.

Choice hour selection sheets went home yesterday.  Please be sure to return them soon!  Our class wins a prize for being the first 3/4 class with all selection sheets turned in!

Thanks for a Terrific Tuesday!  See you tomorrow!
