A FANTASTIC Friday!


Today was a wonderful end to a wonderful week! We started this morning out with Reading Workshop.  We are nearing the end of our book and many groups are working on fabulous projects!  Then, we had math and worked on writing.  We analyzed some examples of writing and read some fabulous stories .  Engineering Technology was today's Co-Curricular. 

Third grade math: Today was a great day!  We spent time practing problem solving skills and then discussed writing.  We also played Name That Number as a class using the iPad.  Here are some pictures from our great week: 



After lunch we had DEAR and then we went to the Media Center for checkout.  Afterwards, we read Time for Kids.  It is such a wonderful publication and it has so many great stories!  Lastly, we had science for the remainder of the afternoon. We continued working on reflecting on our last three experiments on the wiki pages.

Thank you to everyone who has checked out our amazing newspapers hanging in the hallway!  If you haven't yet, don't worry, they are not going anywhere!  They are AMAZING so please be sure to take a look!

Terrific Thursday!

Today was a terrific day! We started this morning out by finishing the class contract that we began on Tuesday.  The kids really amazed me at how thorough and complete their ideas were.  The final contract will come home soon!  We also finished working on MEAP practice this morning.  Swimming was the morning Co-Curricular.  

Third grade math: 
Today was a fantastic day!  The kids took the Unit 1 test and really did a great job!  After the test the kids worked on their addition and subtraction packets or practiced math on computers or iPads.  


After lunch we had DEAR and then Spanish! For the remainder of the afternoon we had co-teaching and the students worked on their group's science wiki.  Our young scientists are articulating their observations very well!  We also had a fire drill and the children were excellent.  We were able to stay outside after the drill for a short recess until the bell rang.

What a Wonderful Wednesday!

Today was a wonderful day! We began our morning with reading workshop.  The creativity of our students is really shining with their chapter summaries!   After math, we spent time on preparing for the MEAP.  Lastly, Engage was the morning Co-Curricular.  

Third grade math: 
Today was a great day!  We discussed the solutions to the review and it is coming home with your child so you can see any corrections.  Tomorrow we will take the Unit 1 test.  However, if your child will be absent on Thursday and/or if your family will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the test can be taken on MONDAY instead.  We also played an Everyday Math game on the iPad.


After lunch we had DEAR and then Engineering Technology! Our afternoon was science, science and more science!  We investigated streams using our models.  Please ask your child to share some of the observations they have made.

Today was a FANTASTIC Tuesday!

Today was a great day! We began our morning with an activity to create our class contract.  The kids did a fabulous job incorporating character traits into our contract.   After math, we spent time on preparing for the MEAP.  Swimming was the morning Co-Curricular.  

Third grade math: 
Today was a great day!  We checked the math boxes from lesson 1.13 and also discussed the 1.13 HL.  Then, the students worked on a basic fact practice packet with addition and subtraction skills.  We will correct the Unit 1 review tomorrow and the Unit 1 test is Thursday.  However, if your child will be absent on Thursday and/or if your family will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the test can be taken on MONDAY instead.  


After lunch we had DEAR and then Spanish! For the remainder of the afternoon we had co-teaching and the students worked on their group's science wiki.  Lastly, we collaborated with the Harvath homeroom to finalize our Class Contract.

Also, if anyone would be willing and able to please help with leveling our classroom library, (looking up a book's guided reading level online and then labeling it accordingly) it would be very much appreciated.  Please just stop in and visit or email me to let me know if you could help.  It is something that can be done either here at school or at home.  If you take some books home, your child can even help you with the process! :-)

Our Third Week!

This was made by the kids!  It turned out AWESOME!  I am glad for the kids to take this over!

It was a GREAT Monday!

Today was a great day! We began our morning with Reading Workshop.  Many book clubs have finished and are working on projects!   After math, we spent our time on Writing Workshop.  Today the kids conferenced with each other; it was great to hear them share with each other!  Engage was the morning Co-Curricular.  

Third grade math: 
Today was a great day!  We checked the math boxes from lesson 1.11 and 1.12 then completed lesson 1.13.  We explored elapsed time.  We then worked on JP 26.  Homework is JP 26, 28 and HL 1.13.  The Unit 1 review is due Tuesday and the Unit 1 test is Thursday.  PLEASE consider the IXL donation.  The program is absolutely incredible.  Please feel free to email me with any specific questions.


After lunch we had DEAR and then went to the Media Center for a presentation by the school counselors.  For the remainder of the afternoon we had science.  We used our stream tables to explore the effects of precipitation on land.

Week three was FABULOUS!

Today was a very busy day as Fridays are always eventful!  We began our morning with Reading Workshop.  The book clubs are really going well!   After math, we spent our time on Writing Workshop.  Today we had Author's Chair as sharing is a very important part of writing.  The stories we heard were excellent!  Engineering Technology was the morning Co-Curricular.  

Third grade math: 
Today was a great day!  We checked the math boxes from lesson 1.11 and then completed lesson 1.12.  We explored patterns!  We then worked on JP 24.  Homework is JP 25 and HL 1.12.  The Unit 1 review came home today.  It is due Tuesday and the Unit 1 test is Thursday.  PLEASE consider the IXL donation.  The program is absolutely incredible.  Please feel free to email me with any specific questions.




After lunch we had a power outage but we were still able to continue with Author's Chair.  Then, we had media center (just a visit, no checkout) and afterwards read Time for Kids.  Science was AMAZING (and jam packed with activity)!  Your children observed the water cycle using their stream tables.  Your child is an expert at explaining the water cycle as a result... Just ask!

It was a SUPER Thursday!

Today was a very busy day!  We began our morning with Reading Workshop.  The kids are working very well with their book clubs!   After math, we spent our time on Writing Workshop.  Today we focused on adding detail to writing.  Swimming was the morning Co-Curricular.  

Third grade math: 
Today was a fun day!  We checked the math boxes from lesson 1.10 and then completed lesson 1.11.  We continued to explore calculations with money on JPs 20 and 21.  We then worked on JP 22.  Homework is JP 22 and HL 1.11.  PLEASE consider the IXL donation.  The program is absolutely incredible.  Please feel free to email me with any specific questions.


After lunch we had DEAR time.  Today's afternoon Co-Curricular was Spanish.  During science this afternoon, we worked on getting our stream tables ready.  The kids bulldozed sand, gravel, humus and clay and they will be observing the water cycle tomorrow.

Today was a WONDERFUL day!  We began our morning with Reading Workshop.  The kids are enjoying their book clubs!    After math, we worked on the district writing prompt.  Before lunch the kids had Engage.  

Third grade math: 
Today was a great day!  We checked the math boxes from lesson 1.9 and then completed lesson 1.10.  We watched an excellent tutorial video made by Nick and Phillip and then explored calculations with money on JPs 17 and 18.  We then worked on JP 19.  Homework is JP 19 and HL 1.10.



After lunch we had DEAR time.  Today's afternoon Co-Curricular was Engineering Technology.  We then worked on identifying landforms in the science lab.  We looked at some amazing photos of land and water on Earth!

Another Terrific Tuesday!

Today was such a great day!  We celebrated Bridget's Birthday!  It was so fun and the ice cream sandwiches were great!!  We began our morning with Reading Workshop.  The kids are doing wonderful with their book clubs!    After math, we worked on the district writing prompt.  Before lunch the kids had swimming.  

Third grade math:

Today was a great day!  We finished up lesson 1.8 and then completed lesson 1.9.  We used calculators to solve different types of problems.  We then worked on JP 16.  Homework is JP 16 and HL 1.9.


After lunch we had DEAR time.  Tuesday is a Spanish day so please be sure to ask your child about Spanish class and PLEASE check the Spanish teacher's website for homework.  We then continued working on our science wikis this afternoon.  Please have a look at the wiki if you'd like to see your child's digital water cycle.
