LEAP Day!

Today was the greatest LEAP DAY I've had in four years!  We began this morning learning about Leap Day and finishing up our interactive quiz about Jackie Robinson (now your kids know why April 15th is so important, besides the fact that is Tax Day and my dad's birthday).

We next introduced the Biography/Autobiography genre with a flipchart that our own fabulous Lisa N. helped out with at the board.

Then, I read a biography about Harriet Tubman, since we learned about her and her role in the Underground Railroad on Monday.  She was truly an amazing woman!

In third grade math we focused on congruence and completed to in-class activities relating to congruence.  We will finish up lesson 6.10 tomorrow and then begin 6.11.  The unit 6 review will go home on Friday and then the Unit 6 test will be next Thursday.  There are new fact quizzes up in today's math post; all four are due on Sunday.

After math, we worked with helping verbs and then we explored verbs in past and present tenses.  Then, it was time for Engage and then lunch.  After lunch was DEAR and then off to art!  For the remainder of the day, we continued our Black History Month exploration.

THERE WILL BE NO SWIMMING FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS DUE TO JUMP ROPE FOR HEART.  PLEASE LOOK FOR THE HANDOUTS TOMORROW AS WE WILL NEED VOLUNTEERS.

Fabulous Friday!

We had a fabulous Friday!  We began with book clubs (most groups are working on projects) and then we ended the morning with spelling.

In between reading and spelling, we had math.  In third grade math we learned how to measure angles and we used an angle measurer.  The kids did great and really seemed to grasp the concept very well.  Over break, there is no written homework.  However, IXL minutes are still due on 2/19 and I am offering 50 extra credit minutes to replace any past missing IXL work.  Even if your child does not need extra credit, the practice is very valuable!

After art and lunch, we had DEAR and then went to the Media Center.  Afterwards, we shared the amazing paragraphs that the kids turned in on Wednesday.  They were excellent!  Lastly, we continued working on our science pollution Glogs.
