The Last Monday of April!

Today was a great day!  We began with daily grammar and then discussed our new book club genre - fantasy.  We had a discussion about what students will encounter while reading their fantasy novels.  Each group received their new book and began reading.  After math we continued with book clubs.

In third grade math we continued to discuss multiplication.  We worked on lesson 9.2, mostly JP 208.  I demonstrated how to solve each problem and then students were to complete the page as HW.  Also HW is JP 210 and HL 9.2.

After engage and lunch, we had DEAR.  Next, we worked on a new grammar packet which involves adjectives, review work with nouns and verbs, prefixes and suffixes.  Afterwards, we began a new chapter in Michigan History.  Finally, we finished the day with a very productive classroom meeting.  I went over planners but excused the kids from writing due to time constraints.  (Many chose to write in their planner, though.)  We barely had enough time for Clean Table Club!

Fourth graders will need their instrumental forms by Thursday.

All students will need their Reading Party permission slip by Friday.  Also, we would love a few more volunteers to drive on 5/11 for our reading event.  Please consider driving if your schedule would permit; we would be so grateful!

Thank you for reading and enjoy your evening!

From Our Techies This Week...

Fantastic Friday!

Today was FANTASTIC (other than the crazy schedule)!  We had a nice morning and it was spent on hearing a group of 7/8 students share their initiative 6 Million Pennies for 6 Million Lives.  Then, we worked on daily grammar and a little trivia from last week's Time for Kids.  After math we worked on cursive and had Media Center time.

During math, we began Unit 9, multiplication and division.  We check the final math box journal page (203) and then worked on page 206 in class.  The HW is JP 207, IXL and Fact Quizzes.  HL 8.9 (the Unit 9 Family Letter) needs to be signed by Monday.  HL 9.1 is an OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT CHALLENGE.  I explained (and completed) one problem in class and I know that some kids actually already finished the page and got them all correct!

Lunch was very early today and then afterwards we had a short DEAR time and then switched for science.  After science, we went to complete our shift with the Kids Against Hunger food packing program.  We had a WONDERFUL and VERY REWARDING time!  After packing food, the kids went to art.  Our final activity of the day was Time for Kids.  Any unfinished worksheets are due on Monday.

I am SO EXCITED for the movie tomorrow!  I hope to see you there!

Thank you for reading and enjoy your evening!

Thursday in Mrs. Mali's Class!

Today was a fantastic day!  We began with daily grammar and then spent the morning, both before and after math, working on cursive, Spelling City, IXL, and science exploration projects.

In third grade math, we had computer time to work on basic facts and IXL.

After swimming and lunch, we had a wonderful birthday treat from Laurent.  Thank you for the treat and Happy Birthday Laurent!  Next, the students went to Spanish.  After Spanish we worked on Native American projects and then watched a short video about careers.  We ended our day with... you'll never guess... Sharks and Minnows!

Today I sent home a permission slip for our Reading Party at Maple Village on Friday, May 11th.  We will need parent drivers for this event.  Our room mom will be sending an email with the full details but please consider driving and joining us for this wonderful event.  Both the kids and the seniors really enjoy this opportunity.

Tomorrow we will be packing food with Kids Against Hunger from 12:45-1:15.  It should be very exciting and it is such a rewarding experience.

Also, remember Saturday is the day when we will see Chimpanzee at 2:45.  Please consider purchasing tickets in advance.

A HUGE THANK YOU to those of you who have sent in donations for Clean Table Club.  Our room is known as THE CLEANEST in the building thanks to this great game!  We're all very proud of this!  Thank you for helping keep up the kids' motivation until June!

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful evening!

Monday flew by!

Today was a great day!  We began with daily grammar - it is so much better working on it first thing in the morning!  Then, we continued with writing and many students began cursive.  After math, we continued with writing and cursive.

In third grade math, we further explored fractions and wrapped up the unit.  The review is due tomorrow and the Unit 8 test is on Wednesday.  The HW is to complete the review and begin this week's 50 minutes of IXL.

After Engage and lunch, we had DEAR and then went over a Micighan packet that we completed previously.  Next, we read a new TFK and the kids developed trivia/comprehension questions to go with the articles as they read them.  Lastly, we had a classroom meeting.  After planners and cleanup the kids played outside... Yes, Sharks and Minnows of course!  Thank you Nick C. and Jordyn for taking "play time" to clean up the trash that was on the ground!

Please let me know if you are taking your child to work on Thursday!  Also, please keep checking the Palladium link I sent on Friday to purchase tickets in advance for Saturday's movie at 2:45.  I can't wait to see the movie with everyone!

Have a great evening!

Fabulous Friday!

Please report your butterfly from the SYMBOLIC MIGRATION if you have not done so already.  Please just click HERE to add to the map!

What a quick week!  We had a fabulous day today!  We started out with daily grammar and then got right into writing (all students have finished their ecosystem book).  After math, we continued with writing and the kids also took their spelling test.

During third grade math we continued to discuss fractions.  We spent a lot of time on JP 202 as it was a very challenging page.  Your child should have lovely pictures and explanations in his or her journal from our discussions.  The HW is to finish JP 201 by Monday.  Also, I distributed the unit 8 review which is due on Tuesday.  We will take our Unit 8 test on Wednesday.

After art and lunch, we did planners and then quickly went to the Media Center.  After we returned we started our team movie event.  Dolphin Tale is one of THE BEST movies I have seen!  I had no idea what an amazing movie it would be!  As prosthetics were an integral part of the movie, we were reminded of the fact that we had the opportunity earlier in the year to Skype with Scott Rigsby and ProCare Prosthetics.  We were also reminded about disabilities in general and how living with one should not stop anyone (or any animal) from doing what they love.  I could go on and on about this incredible movie and about my love for dolphins.  Thank you Kylee for bringing the movie in for us!  If you want to have a look at Winter just check click this LINK.

Thank you to those of you who have already responded to my email this morning about next week.  Also, I am very excited about our next trip to the movies!

Have a wonderful weekend!
