What a fantastic way to start my week with Mrs. Mali's class!  Your students are simply wonderful.  We had a fire drill this morning that went very smoothly because of how well they reacted and behaved.

We begin MEAP testing tomorrow, so please make sure you get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast.  MEAP tests can be stressful for students, so we try to not have too much homework during the MEAP weeks.

The fire drill pushed our math lesson to the afternoon, but everyone handled it well.  We studied how to complete parts-and-totals number stories.  We completed journal pages 36 and 37 together in class.

Thank you so much for reading the blog and for checking and signing your child's planner!

Homework:

*Please bring a water bottle, sharpened pencils, and a silent reading book

1) Math: 3rd: Finish JP 36-38 (whatever wasn't completed in class) and Homelink 2.4 due Wednesday
4th: SL 2.8 for extra credit (optional)
2) Reading: 20 minutes for third grade, 30 minutes for fourth grade

3) LUCKY book orders due Wednesday 10/19

Please read the MEAP letter from the 3/4 team below:

Dear 3/4 Parents,

Welcome to MEAP Weeks! During the next two weeks, your child will be taking the MEAP test. 3rd graders take Reading and Math. 4th graders take Reading, Writing, and Math. When we test, the kids are in their homeroom with half of our class; the grade not being tested during that block has a rotation of activities in the Media Center. Having 13-14 kids in the room provides a calm testing environment for the kids and allows teachers to proctor well.

On the next two pages, you will find the copy of our class’ MEAP testing schedule. Occasionally, testing sessions last longer than is estimated on this schedule. Individual students have as long as they need to finish a testing session—tests are NOT timed.

What should parents do at home to help your child do well?

• Early bedtime—get at least 10 hours of sleep!

• Healthy, big breakfast (NO food or drinks are allowed in MEAP rooms)

• Pack at least two healthy snacks and a great reading book.

• Get to school on time—testing begins by 8:30 every day.

• Do not take your child out of school for appointments.

If you have any questions, please email your child’s teacher.

Thanks,

The 3/4 Team
